Live flash stream isn't working

Question

I started a live flash stream without an error. But when trying to view the video, it just spins.  The video does not show up.  What could be wrong?

Answer

When creating a Live Event through your streaming control panel, you will have the option to enter a Source Address or an Username/Password.  If you put in a source IP address, make sure you double check your network IP address to see if it has changed.  It's common for IP addresses to change if you are on a dynamic IP network.  When your IP changes, you have to edit this live event to update the IP address.  Otherwise the video stream will not work.  You can always check to see what IP address you are using by going to http://www.whatismyip.com.

Another solution is to not input a source IP address, but instead use the Username & Password fields.  Your live stream will work without having a source IP address as long as you gave it an username and password.  When using the Username and Password option, your stream name will change to include the username and password in the string.  So make sure you update your Adobe Live Encoder or your Touchstream unit with the updated Stream Name.

You won't have to worry about your IP address changing if you utilize the username and password option.  So if you know you are on a dynamic network, you will want to use the username & password option instead of the source IP option.
