How to setup Goolge mail and Android phone

Webmail by Google email setup Instructions for Android MAIL application.

Simple:

  1. Note: Some Android phone email set-ups are more automated than others. These are instructions for automated set-ups. The detailed instructions are below, if needed.
  2. On your phone, press Home, then open the Email application.
  3. On the Your accounts page, select Next to get started with setup.
  4. Enter your full Webmail by Google (Gmail) address and password, then select Next.
  5. On the next screen, you can give the account a nickname and choose the display name on your outgoing messages. Select Done.
  6. You're done. You can verify your settings from the Inbox view by tapping Menu > Account settings.

Detailed:

  1. Note: Some Android phone email set-ups are more automated than others. Your phone may have some of these settings built in. These are general detailed instructions.
  2. On your phone, press Home, then open the Email application.
  3. On the Your accounts page, select Next or Add Account to get started with setup.
  4. Enter your full Webmail by Google email address (UCID@njit.edu) and password, then selectNext.
  5. Select IMAP account and then select Next.

On the 'Incoming server settings' page, some fields may be pre-populated. Make sure to change the following:

  1. For Username, enter your full Webmail by Google (UCID@njit.edu) email address
  2. For IMAP server, enter 'imap.gmail.com'
  3. For Port, enter '993'
  4. For Security type, select 'SSL (always)'
  5. Select Next.

On the Outgoing server settings page, some fields may be pre-populated. Make sure to change the following:

  1. For SMTP3 server enter 'smtp.gmail.com'
  2. For Port, enter '465'
  3. For Security type, select 'SSL (always)'
  4. Select Next and continue through the setup options.

You can verify your settings from the Inbox view by tapping Menu > Account settings.

  1. Incoming settings
  2. IMAP server: 'imap.gmail.com'
  3. Port: '993'
  4. Security type: 'SSL (always)'

Outgoing settings

  1. SMTP server: 'smtp.gmail.com'
  2. Port: '465'
  3. Security type: 'SSL (always)'
  4. Now that your account is set up, learn how actions in your client sync with Webmail by Google (Gmail).
